The Scotsman, Kate Copstick, August 2001

Company is as near perfect a piece of musical theatre as has ever sold a soundtrack. Sondheim's inter-personal tragi-comedy of manners in thirtysomething WASP New York looks at birthday boy Bobby - single and surrounded by 'happily' married friends. I only wish there had been a programme so that I could tell you who was responsible for all that was good about this production - like the choreography, which is sympathetic to both piece and players. Leigh Thompson's musical direction is impressive, as is the cast, which is much more than the sum of its parts. There are many good performances, and you know who you are. Sarah was unimprovable, Peter well-judged, April lovely (even though we never got to hear Barcelona) and Paul's toast-eating forever memorable. Sondheim is safe in their hands.
